Situated in the picturesque village of Tintern in Monmouthshire, the Cistercian abbey is one of the most historic monastic ruins in Wales. In 2013 work started at the abbey to replace the roof of the gift shop, which has exceeded its serviceable life.
The brief for this project was to not only repair the failing roof, but to bring the abbey to the forefront of modern-day roofing technology with the installation of a state-of-the-art photovoltaic (PV) system.
Since the installation the abbey has been recognised by many award giving bodies for its sustainability, most notably winning the solar category at the NFRC’s 2014 roofing Awards.
